Don’t you love instant karma?

April 13, 2010 2 comments

Whenever someone in our house does something against someone else, invariably there will be instant karma.  For example: Daughter #1 pushes  unsuspecting daughter #2 and then proceeds to trip over her own feet and falls down.  Instant karma.  It’s a thing of beauty! *grin*

Here’s another example: Congress (well, “some” of Congress) passes the health care bill into law only to discover a “glitch” that for all intents and purposes ends their current “cushy” health care and subjects them to what everyone else will be using. In other words, the nobles have to eat with the peasants.

Honestly, it couldn’t happened to a “nicer” group of people…LMAO!  AND, on the upside, perhaps this will force them to look very seriously at this new law and truly fix it.  I’m not holding my breath but it would seem that there are only two options:  weasel out of it and try to restore the exemptions that they thought they had so carefully in place (not the best thing to do while the entire nation is watching) or make the plan workable even for the Congress.

I’ve always believed that if Congress were forced to use the same programs they so liberally foist on the American public (health, social, etc), 90% of the problems associated with them would vanish overnight.

Not exactly a “Class Act”

April 8, 2010 Leave a comment

Remember when Pelosi said, we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it”?

Let me introduce you to Title XXVII of the Healthcare Reform Bill, a.k.a CLASS Act (Affordable Health Choices Act), which, if you remain unaware of this little bit of information, will cost you anywhere from $150 to $240 dollars per month, automatically deducted from your paycheck by your payroll department…unless you “opt out” which apparently you can do…if you know you need to in order to avoid this “surprise tax”.

Haven’t heard about it in the news yet? Well, you can’t be too surprised by that. The Republicans probably aren’t even aware of it because it was slipped into the Health Care Reform bill and kinda hidden among the 1,000+ plus pages of legalize.

So…Guam is in danger of capsizing…who knew?!? O_o

April 1, 2010 Leave a comment

(I sincerely wish this was an April Fool’s joke. It’s not though.)

I certainly hope Representative Hank Johnson is NOT representative of the intelligence level of all those behind Healthcare reform.

“My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize.”

O_o

Using Rep. Johnson’s logic, we might further ponder the dangers of underpopulation.  If Guam doesn’t have enough weight on it, would it float away into the stratosphere?

Serious kudos to the Admiral for even being able to keep a straight face with his response, “Uh…we don’t anticipate that…” But it makes me wonder…perhaps he hears this kind of inane babble all the time and so, maybe it really just doesn’t faze him.

Scary thought.

He was likely trying to convey a figurative “capsizing” of the ecological systems and doing so very poorly, what was with the hand motions? ’cause to me, looked like he meant the island actually tipping over! of tiny Guam that currently has a population of 180,000 people. Adding an additional 80,000 people (at peak construction) could trigger water shortages and overload  sewage and other public utilities.

Congratulations America! You are now the proud owner of a new car!

I beg your pardon? Oh…you wanted to test drive it before we used your money to buy it for you? No, I’m sorry. You can’t do that. But, you can look at a picture of it for 36 hours. I’m sorry if you won’t have enough time to figure it all out. We don’t know all about it either, but we’ll explain it to you after your first payment.

Did she really say that? Outloud?!?

From her statement at today’s Legislative Conference for National Association of Counties:

“You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention – it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting.

For one brief, incredulous moment – I actually agreed with Pelosi!!!  It completely makes sense!  Preventive care? YES! Keeping people from getting things like diabetes by promoting healthy living? Encouraging personal responsibility? YES! YES! YES! And I thought it could never happen…I had to check the temperature in Hell because SURELY it MUST HAVE FROZEN OVER!!!

And then that mouth:

“But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”

And I realized, no, things are completely normal. Idiocy is still running completely unchecked in Congress, most especially if Pelosi is involved. Blind faith…it’s the new Democracy.

“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

–Ben Franklin.”

Our tax dollars…burning in front of our eyes…

Have you received your letter reminding you to expect the 2010 census packet in the mail soon?  I got mine and boy, am I ever grateful that the federal government had the foresight to mail me a notice telling me that the census packet that I already was expecting and will be mailed to me soon is about to be mailed to me soon!  I mean, what if I had gone to the store or something?!?  I might have missed it altogether! <insert shriek of terror>

Wait a minute…no I wouldn’t have…it would have been waiting right in my mail box with the rest of my mail.  I would have seen it anyway!

So then, the purpose of the pre-letter would be…?  Ah yes, to unecessarily spend millions of dollars that we, the American people, do not have to spend…again.

FYI:  There are approximately 114,825,428 households in the US. If they (and by “they” I mean WE) spent 5 cents for paper/ink/envelope and 20 cents on postage (bulk rates),  that’d be $. 25 cents times 114,825,428 households = $28.7 MILLION dollars.

Wanna take a guess as to how much the Census packet will be costing us? *smirk*

I think this should be the required screensaver of EVERY congressman in the US.

And while you’re busy looking over at the Healthcare bill that was passed on Christmas Eve…

ACORN was cleared of the charges of misuse of federal funds. Excuse me while I go vomit.

Report Finds Acorn Broke No Laws

The controversial community organizing group Acorn has not broken any laws in the last five years, according to a Congrssional [sic] Research Service report released Tuesday evening.

The report, requested by Representative John Conyers, Democrat of Michigan, said that federal agencies, mainly the Departments of Justice and Housing and Urban Development, have awarded money to the group 48 times since 2005. But, in none of those instances did Acorn violate the terms of their funding, the report said.

Since the 2008 elections, the group, which works primarily to expand voter registration and affordable housing, has become a key Republican target. A series of scandals brought to light by conservative activists led to multiple Congressional hearings and repeated attempts to deny it taxpayer funding.

Acorn has been the subject of scores of investigations—a total of 46 inquiries by federal, state, and local agencies, including the FBI and the Treasury Department, and five by Congress as of October 2009, according to the report.

The report found no evidence that voters attempting to cast ballots at the polls had been improperly registered by Acorn, a chief Republican accusation.

The report also said that a sting-style effort to publicize the group’s allegedly illegal activities, may have broken state laws. Two conservative activists set off a firestorm in September when they posed as a pimp and a prostitute seeking financial advice and secretly videotaped Acorn employees offering advice on how the couple could hide their illicit activities and avoid paying taxes.

Also on Tuesday, a federal court in Brooklyn, New York, rejected the administration’s request to reconsider its ruling that a House resolution barring the group from receiving federal funding was unconstitutional. Earlier this month a judge ruled that the law constituted a “bill of attainder,” legislation intended to punish specific people or groups.

In November the Justice Department also concluded that the Obama administration can legally pay the group.

So then, the party in power oversees an “investigation” into an organization that wants to keep them in power and finds nothing wrong. Raise your hand if you’re surprised.

I would like to point out the HUGE disparity between the title of this NYT article and the content of the article:  the report says that ACORN didn’t “violate the terms of their funding” which is HARDLY the same as “ACORN broke no laws”. It would also be a good thing to point out here that congressional committees aren’t equivalent to a court of law in determining guilt and innocence.

The investigators may have cleared them of the misuse of funding but that hardly means ACORN hasn’t broken any laws.

This seemed pretty far fetched in 1948…

“When anybody preaches disunity, tries to pit one of us against the other through class warfare, race hatred or religious intolerance, you know that person seeks to rob us of our freedom and destroy our very lives.”

Anytime a people give up their civil liberties for a small measure of security, they gain neither liberty nor security.
