We’ve lost an absolute treasure…

May 10, 2010 Leave a comment

The bright lights of the silver screen continue to burn out leaving an ever growing darkness that will fairly soon extinguish all that was the glorious glamor of the original Hollywood.

We will never again have the likes of Lena Horne, she is nothing less than legendary in beauty and talent.  92 years…that’s a wonderfully long life to live.

Of course, my observations are primarily from the viewpoint of her amazing talent.  They do not touch on the amazing influence she had on race relations in Hollywood and beyond.  One incident in particular stands out: during a performance for the USO at Ft. Riley, KS, Lena walked off stage to the back of the room when she noticed that German prisoners of war were seated in front of black American soldiers!  In a Tribune interview years later, she said of the incident, “I just walked off stage and went up and sang to the back of the room.  It happened a couple of times, and they finally said, ‘Get her out of the USO’.  I just reacted as Lena.”

Peace to you Ms. Horne, and thank you for sharing your gifts with the world.

P.S. My favorite song? “I don’t think I’ll end it all today” ;)

RE: State of Arizona Law SB1070

On the one hand:

And on the other:

From the comments section of this article: Arizona lawmakers modify immigration law

itiswhatitis at 10:24 AM May 01, 2010

Food for thought: Why does the U.S. have the most lenient illegal immigration policy in the world? Mexico does not tolerate illegal entry:  Police state: How Mexico treats illegal aliens.

The U.S. immigration problem is just a shell game to divert our attention from something scarier. We are quickly converted from a democratic republic to a non-democratic plutocracy – a country which is ruled by and for the corporations. Check out the January 2010 supreme court ruling which modified the first amendment of the Bill of Rights. Corporations are now considered to be people. This radical change enables corporations to shovel as muchmoney as they want into the presidential election process with no dollar limits.

The rest of the world sees this far more clearly than us. The U.S. government needs to flood the country with as many uneducated and desparate workers as possible, forcing U.S. citizens into a situations where they are powerless but to do what the Feds demand. Our wages are being reduced, our freedoms stolen, our votes bought. So, to all you Mexicans thinking of relocating here – do you really want to live in Mexico II? Your government already did to you what ours is the process of doing to us and I’m not so sure you will find a brighter future here. We too are on a race to the end of democracy.”

Why is it okay for the Federal Government to ignore some of it’s laws and enforce others? The best reason I can think of is because some laws don’t fit into it’s agenda and others do. I believe Arizona is well within it’s right to enforce a law that already exists, it has been making this plea for the last 15 years! All through the Clinton and Bush administrations…and now Obama’s.

But the question remains, why is the Federal Government ignoring the enforcement of this federal law?

Whenever you see the headlines dominated by one topic, such as this, start looking for the ‘man behind the curtain’ and what the hell is he up to while all this is going on!?

We will never give up…

April 30, 2010 Leave a comment

Today marks the very sad anniversary of questions left unanswered, justice left unserved. Hopefully today’s developments will assist in finally bringing Lisa home. My heart breaks for her children, her sisters, her parents, and all her dear family.

So many are praying you…and that is no small thing. (((((((HUGS)))))))

After 3 years, search for Lisa Stebic continues

The Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force will join the investigation into the disappearance of Lisa Stebic, authorities said today, the third anniversary of the day she was last seen.

The move means that the case will now be investigated by more than 80 new detectives who will try to determine what happened to the mother of two. New Plainfield Police Chief William Doster said he requested help from the task force because the case needs fresh eyes.

“One of the priorities I set for myself when I became chief was to review the Stebic files,” he said. “The investigation was very well done by my detectives. It never hurts to have fresh eyes look at an investigation.”

Doster said in three years, no one has seen any activity by Stebic: no cell phone use, no use of her credit cards, social security number or identification. That has led authorities to believe she was a victim of foul play.

Stebic was last seen on April 30, 2007, at her home in Plainfield. Her husband, Craig Stebic, was working in the yard and her two children had gone to the store for candy, said Melanie Greenberg, a spokeswoman for Lisa’s family and the missing woman’s cousin. When the children returned, Lisa Stebic was gone, and no one saw her again.

“She vanished seemingly into thin air,” Greenberg said, holding a picture of her cousin. “The person who wanted Lisa to go missing wanted to erase her. It’s been three years but we’re fighting just as hard for Lisa to be found.”

Promiscuous women cause earthquakes, Iran cleric says

(to read full article, please follow the link in title)

The prayer leader, Hojatoleslam Kazim Sadeghi, says women and girls who “don’t dress appropriately” spread “promiscuity in society.”

“When promiscuity spreads, earthquakes increase,” he says in a video posted Monday on YouTube, apparently of him leading Friday prayers in Tehran, Iran, last week.

“There is no way other than taking refuge in religion and adapting ourselves to Islamic behavior,” he adds in the video.

In response to said craziness, I give you:

Don’t you love instant karma?

April 13, 2010 2 comments

Whenever someone in our house does something against someone else, invariably there will be instant karma.  For example: Daughter #1 pushes  unsuspecting daughter #2 and then proceeds to trip over her own feet and falls down.  Instant karma.  It’s a thing of beauty! *grin*

Here’s another example: Congress (well, “some” of Congress) passes the health care bill into law only to discover a “glitch” that for all intents and purposes ends their current “cushy” health care and subjects them to what everyone else will be using. In other words, the nobles have to eat with the peasants.

Honestly, it couldn’t happened to a “nicer” group of people…LMAO!  AND, on the upside, perhaps this will force them to look very seriously at this new law and truly fix it.  I’m not holding my breath but it would seem that there are only two options:  weasel out of it and try to restore the exemptions that they thought they had so carefully in place (not the best thing to do while the entire nation is watching) or make the plan workable even for the Congress.

I’ve always believed that if Congress were forced to use the same programs they so liberally foist on the American public (health, social, etc), 90% of the problems associated with them would vanish overnight.

Not exactly a “Class Act”

April 8, 2010 Leave a comment

Remember when Pelosi said, we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it”?

Let me introduce you to Title XXVII of the Healthcare Reform Bill, a.k.a CLASS Act (Affordable Health Choices Act), which, if you remain unaware of this little bit of information, will cost you anywhere from $150 to $240 dollars per month, automatically deducted from your paycheck by your payroll department…unless you “opt out” which apparently you can do…if you know you need to in order to avoid this “surprise tax”.

Haven’t heard about it in the news yet? Well, you can’t be too surprised by that. The Republicans probably aren’t even aware of it because it was slipped into the Health Care Reform bill and kinda hidden among the 1,000+ plus pages of legalize.

Possibly the most awe inspiring mug shot I’ve ever seen, LMAO!!!!

This is quite possibly the greatest anti-drug picture of all time!

He’s a very weird cross between Pippy Longstocking and Alice Cooper! In fact, this guy is like a mix of just about every drunk celebrity!  I can even see a little bit of Nick Nolte in there too! LMAO!  Poor dude.  How bad does it have to be to get to this point?!?

To absolutely NO ONE’s surprise, meth and ammo are involved.  Makes me seriously curious about what kind of manifesto ‘weirdkins’ up there in the picture may have been in the process of writing.

If I had to guess, based solely on this picture, I would say it would probably sound like something from the minds of Charles Manson and the Crazy Cat Lady of “The Simpsons” frappeed in a blender and written down in one long rambling mess with no paragraphs, punctuation or capital letters (except for the ones he used to spell out in code his secret recipe for moss remover).  It would be frightening, delusional, with an extra helping of unintelligibility and maybe one surprisingly logical and insightful sentence having to do with the LHC, seasoned with just a dash of “I didn’t mean tuh” and “where’d I leave my tin foil hat?”

Kids…this is why we don’t do drugs.

ACORN was cleared of the charges of misuse of federal funds. Excuse me while I go vomit.

Report Finds Acorn Broke No Laws

The controversial community organizing group Acorn has not broken any laws in the last five years, according to a Congrssional [sic] Research Service report released Tuesday evening.

The report, requested by Representative John Conyers, Democrat of Michigan, said that federal agencies, mainly the Departments of Justice and Housing and Urban Development, have awarded money to the group 48 times since 2005. But, in none of those instances did Acorn violate the terms of their funding, the report said.

Since the 2008 elections, the group, which works primarily to expand voter registration and affordable housing, has become a key Republican target. A series of scandals brought to light by conservative activists led to multiple Congressional hearings and repeated attempts to deny it taxpayer funding.

Acorn has been the subject of scores of investigations—a total of 46 inquiries by federal, state, and local agencies, including the FBI and the Treasury Department, and five by Congress as of October 2009, according to the report.

The report found no evidence that voters attempting to cast ballots at the polls had been improperly registered by Acorn, a chief Republican accusation.

The report also said that a sting-style effort to publicize the group’s allegedly illegal activities, may have broken state laws. Two conservative activists set off a firestorm in September when they posed as a pimp and a prostitute seeking financial advice and secretly videotaped Acorn employees offering advice on how the couple could hide their illicit activities and avoid paying taxes.

Also on Tuesday, a federal court in Brooklyn, New York, rejected the administration’s request to reconsider its ruling that a House resolution barring the group from receiving federal funding was unconstitutional. Earlier this month a judge ruled that the law constituted a “bill of attainder,” legislation intended to punish specific people or groups.

In November the Justice Department also concluded that the Obama administration can legally pay the group.

So then, the party in power oversees an “investigation” into an organization that wants to keep them in power and finds nothing wrong. Raise your hand if you’re surprised.

I would like to point out the HUGE disparity between the title of this NYT article and the content of the article:  the report says that ACORN didn’t “violate the terms of their funding” which is HARDLY the same as “ACORN broke no laws”. It would also be a good thing to point out here that congressional committees aren’t equivalent to a court of law in determining guilt and innocence.

The investigators may have cleared them of the misuse of funding but that hardly means ACORN hasn’t broken any laws.
