When you have nothing left but desperation…

Oh.  The finger-lickin’ humanity of it all.

Even though Gibson has stooped to cinema satire, I must admit – he’s quite funny.   He has to do something to get back into the good graces of Hollywood, right?  I suppose if Michael Richards can manage it…so can Mel.  oh…wait…  Good luck Mel!!

Too well deserved…

Just echoing what is undoubtedly being repeated over and over in the cyberdome…Congratulations to Heath!  Only the 2nd posthumous Oscar in the history of the Academy Awards.  The first being Peter Finch, who was posthumously named best actor more than 30 years ago for his performance in 1976′s “Network.”

So many are calling “The Dark Knight” Ledger’s “last film”…and true enough, it was his last completed film.  There is one film left though…so this isn’t the very last we’ll see of Heath Ledger:  “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”.

Ledger: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Judd Law, Colin Firth, and Johnny Depp have all stepped in to resume Ledger’s role as “Tony”.  The story apparently works well with the transitions – something to do with a magic mirror and falling through it:  interested parties can read a more complete synopsis HERE.  In any case, this film feels a lot like another favorite of mine: “Mirrormask”!  The official release date is set for September 2009. How odd.  Most women don’t wear their camel toes on their feet.

0210_sara_jessica_parker_splash

But that’s not stopping Sarah Jessica Parker (of “Sex and the City” fame) from trotting around New York city in these recently.  Though you wouldn’t catch me alive or dead in a pair of these ungulate-style boots, I will say this: better to have camel toe on the feet than other places way to be a trend setter Sarah! Heh.

I would really like to know exactly how Just Jared missed these.  TMZ sure didn’t! LOL!

Seriously…she’s just messing with us now…isn’t she.  O_o

“New Moon” Trailer…sort of.

February 10, 2009 7 comments

This girl (tiffanyd666) has some serious editing chops!  With 2,953,234 views (and counting) you know she’s already makin’ waves.  (my daughters- total Twilight fangirls, are gonna freak when I show them this, lol.)

Okay…

#1:  I didn’t like the movie “Twilight” all that much.  It was…just okay.  Could have a lot to do with the directing, the editing, the piggyback riding…can’t quite put my finger on it.  I will say the actors did a terrific job of portraying their characters as they were written (which in fact doesn’t say much for the book).

#2:  I’m not actually a…what do they call them…a “Twilighter”, a “fanpire” (?) but I did read the entire series.  Mainly because my girls wanted to read them so, we all kinda read them at the same time (which was interesting with only 1 1/2 sets of books between the 3 of us).

My oldest wanted to make the books last as long as possible, my youngest zipped through the series with the speed of a freight train…and me, well – it’s not exactly challenging literature is it. lol.  I finished it before both of them (though I wanted to slap the crap outta Bella so many times, cripes that girl can whine!).  We had a very good time debating the different issues of the series- those being: Meyer’s take on vampires (nicely original), writing style (hey man, I haven’t written a book of my own, I don’t judge), Bella’s inability to make a decision, storyline and twists, the fact that this whole idea of romance sounds awfully familiar, etc, ad nauseam.

Best time I had though was tormenting my girls by telling them the protagonist (Bella) should end up with Jacob (the werewolf), not Edward (the pedophile 100-something yr old vampire).  I did this with much glee because hey, gotta get my licks when I can right?  It is to be noted that both my girls fell head over heels for Edward.  I told them:

*rant warning*

“It only makes sense for Bella to wind up with Jacob because Bella can still be herself with him.  (THAT is a good message to send to teen girls who are longing for guidance, eh?  That they need to be themselves, not try to conform to some hormon ridden lust machine’s idea of what he wants her to be, right?  That if he doesn’t like her for who she is he can just go hang and isn’t worth the gum on the bottom of her shoe? I thought so too.)  She doesn’t have to change anything about herself at all!  True she’d be putting up with what basically amounts to a big smelly dog…(but really, how different is that from most men anyway?).

However, in order for her to be with Edward, she has to change everything about herself (i.e. becoming one of the undead), leave ALL her family and friends, give up EVERYTHING she’s ever known just so he doesn’t wind up killing her accidentally when he gets all hot and bothered.  And what kind of a creepy old guy (ya, I know he’s trapped in some kind of “hot teenage bod” – whatever, skinny/pale/cave-chested/cold was never my bag), who sneaks into her room at night to ‘watch her’ btw… shocked…and who is all ‘I can’t stand the smell of you only because it makes me vant to dr-r-rink your blood’ and then all of a sudden he can totally handle it?  Oh yes…that’s because he’s a supa-star!  Ha.  Dude has ‘STALKER’ written all over his sparkly bad self.

Why does Bella need either of these guys?  Why can’t she just put on her big girl panties and make the obvious choice (which is NEITHER OF THEM)!?  You know…Screw this bs!  Bella should just MOVE THE HELL BACK TO ARIZONA!!!”  (<—–I didn’t actually say that last bit- well, I did under my breath, lol.)

As a mother I simply cannot condone this kind of squishy, co-dependency and overall emotionally driven bad judgement.  I do give props to Edward though who tried to ditch Bella at the beginning of book two (“New Moon”) but their teen angst was too much to suppress (egads…isn’t it ALWAYS!!!?) and he returns only to drag us through two more books of whining.   You’d think a centenarian+ would have learned how to handle a situation like this a  long time ago.

Anyway…none of my rambling has a thing to do with tiffanyd666.  She is an excellent vidder and I simply had to post about her here and share her work with you all.

“Inkheart”

“Every story ever written is just waiting to become real.”

Quick movie review:  Really fun little film, beautifully  presented with nicely acted roles.  I have to say, it is really nice to see Brendon Fraser on the screen again…he seemed to be missing except for a small role in “Crash” and “Journey to the Center of the Earth” which seemed a bit campy to me.  “Inkheart”, on the other hand, is imaginative and fresh in the same way that “Stardust” is.  Falling well within the limits of fairy tale, “Inkheart” drags us out of the modern life and drops us into the turbulent existence of Mortimer ‘Mo’ Folchart and his daughter Meggie. Mo is what is known as a “silver tongue” and in this story, that means that whatever he reads aloud is brought out of the book he’s reading and into our world which makes for some very interesting twists and turns.

It is presumed that most know this movie was adapted from the book by Cornelia Funke.  Most of the time, it seems that books turned into movies just don’t cut it. “Twilight” for example, was great for the fans of the book series, however, if you went into the movie without any understanding of book or it’s overall tone, then you would have wound up like the couple in front of me when I went and saw it- laughing hysterically and eventually leaving 1/2 through. Not that I blame them much. I’d read the entire series and still found myself burring my face in my hand  (a.k.a. *face/palm*) silently chastising the director. “NOnonoNOnonoNO!” The ‘running scenes’ – abysmally campy. The ‘near-death scene of Bella’ – sorry, but I was giggling…she was crossing her eyes!! LMAO! Whatever. It had it’s moments but unless you read the book, you were bound to think the characters were made of intensely dramatic cardboard stuffed into a story as thin as tissue made from the Angst Co. of Decorative Papers, while drowning in a cinematic sea of depressing blue. We get it!  They’re the “Cold Ones.”  At the very least Arizona, sunny hot state that it is, should have been filmed in bright golden hues.  It would have made the transition to overcast Forks, WA much more dramatic (as if the movie needed more drama, heh).  It was weird seeing gray cacti. O_o

Back to “Inkheart” – In this instance, I have the advantage of not having read the book, so I don’t know what’s missing from the original story.   However, what is presented is clear and strong with vibrant characters played by excellent actors (supporting roles boast Andy Serkis, Paul Bettany, and the ever elegant Helen Mirren). It has the ability to pull the viewer into it’s world allowing us to suspend reality, a pre-requisite for a good fairy tale, and live in the margins of the film experience even as we munch on our popcorn and sip on our colas. I loved it. My 10 year old, half way through the movie says “we’re buying this one right?” I think so. Lord knows I bought “Stardust” the second it hit the shelves. ;)  It is quite possible I will feel differently if I read the book though.

Rating: Quite decent. Worth at least one trip to the theater and a DVD purchase (previously viewed/used). Now, whether that’s four stars or 8 golden popcorns or 7 silver screens I can’t say…all I know is it was definitely worth the price of admission and I wouldn’t mind at all adding it to my own video library – ironic as that may seem. Heh.

According to a poll from The Daily Mail.uk, these six faces apparently possess the desired characteristics every British male wishes he had (in order: Hugh Grant, Daniel Craig, Orlando Bloom, Jonny Wilkinson, Ewan MacGregor, and Lewis Hamilton)

a

So, they took these six guys, threw them into a blender, hit frappe’ and this is what came out:
