Mardi Gras…in 1941.

Kinda makes one wonder what the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade will look like in another 225 years.

(this outta make my vegetarian sister positively HURL! Mwahahaha!)

Nothing says “I love you let me enable your heart disease” better than this:

bacon-chocolate01

It’s chocolate!  It’s bacon!  It’s…CHOCOLATE BACON!  And a sure way to put him in the hospital show him you care.

Seriously though, nothing but glowing reports about Mo’s Bacon Bar.  If you have the nerve and a constitution of iron; link’s embedded in the picture above. May the pork be with you.

And sis, this one’s for you.  *grin*

Charles G. Hogg turns carnivorous…goes after mayor’s hand.

We all knew that 2009 would be a rough one.  We also had a feeling there’d be six more weeks of winter.  Though with conflicting groundhog predictions it’s difficult to figure out just what is going on.

Youch!

Charles “Chuck” G. Hogg of Staten Island did NOT see his shadow, but he did have a hankering for human and decided to take a bite out of Mayor Bloomberg.  Whether this was truly a foreshadowing of things to come or merely an act of retribution for being rudely woken up and denied coffee before being thrust into the glare of the camera lights, we may never know.  However, it must say SOMETHING that the mood of the groundhog was decidedly dark.

mayorhog

(Ya…I’d be nervous too there Mikie.  This is what happens when a groundhog has a diva complex. )

Though, could be darker forces at work here because it is reported that Punxsutawney Phil DID see his shadow and has therefore said “6 more weeks of winter”!  The only thing I can make out is that it would seem Chuck is trying to dethrone Phil to become THEE groundhog of the day.  And taking his actions into consideration, it’s obvious he will do anything to achieve his ends. Oh. The horror.

Personally, I think Chuck is just going for his “15 Minutes” a’la Brittany-style.  ;)

I shouldn’t have…

December 13, 2006 Leave a comment

…but I did and I’m hoping the 1 hour workouts I’ve started to do every morning (well…most mornings – not THIS morning…but most) will counteract the fact that I had ice cream for dinner last night.  Nothing like Neapolitan - vanilla/chocolate/strawberry.  I grew up calling it Napoleon ice cream…but what kid didn’t?  At least I knew who Napoleon was, however, I always thought it was odd he had an ice cream flavour named after him.

ANYWAY!  It’s Christmastime…obviously.  I mean, if the eggnog lining 50% of the shelves in the dairy cases of every local grocery store wasn’t the biggest giveaway, then certainly the annoying holiday car commercials yelling at us at every commercial break would be enough to tell everyone (“HOHOHO! MERRY CAR-CLEARANCE!!” *gag*)…it’s finally Christmastime.

But on to the good part of Christmas…my daughters and I have spent the last couple of nights making gingerbread trees, angels, and women (because we don’t have a gingerbread man cookie cutter…just a girl-one.  I’m not sexist, honest!).  Now…until this week, I’d never made gingerbread anything so it’s been a lot of fun and I have to say, the house smells heavenly!  Nothing like rolling dough in unison, to the beat of “I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas” and simultaneously watching an annual classic:  “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” THE ORIGINAL animated special (*rant alert* -not the overly glittery, horrifically altered and obscenely mutilated Universal Studios version – my apologies if you liked the movie– which rampaged all over the US back in 2000 shattering a sacred tradition of jammies, hot cocoa with itty-bitty marshmallows, and pillows piled up on the floor while watching the perfect-since-I-first-saw-it-back-in-1970something original “Grinch” and singing very loudly “You’re a MEAN ONE! Mr. Grinch!  You really are a heel!…”  I mean, how can anyone top that?  Why try?  Nobody, not even Jim Carrey, can sway me to the newer version – though I must say he did a bang up job of it.  Who (<<<HA!  Look!  I’m so PUNNY! *snort*) else but ol’Jimmy could make his face go in so many varied directions?  At the same time?).

Tonight, we decorate all of our gingerbread cookies and I’m ashamed to say I’ll probably need to buy more spiced gumdrops.  It was a small bag anyway.  And spiced gumdrops ARE my favourite!  And I didn’t even eat them all in one sitting…entirely.

P.S.  Thanksgiving sucked.  But that’s another post altogether.  *wink*

Can you smell it yet?

November 22, 2006 Leave a comment

That wonderful wafting of holiday glee is drifting in the air.  Not exactly a turkey smell, not exactly a cinnamon…it’s more of an ‘igetfourdaysinarowoff’ kinda smell.  Yep…short timers, I’ve got it bad.  Just wanna pack up and head home early today.  I’ve got a bird to defrost, potatoes to mash, a couple’a pies to bake and eggnog to ‘break in’, lol.

Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving Day parade outta be interesting, what with the 30mph gusts of wind whipping through the high rises in New York City.  Sadly, this means no balloons this year.  *pout*  I love that Snoopy balloon.  I can live without the Pokemon…very easily.  But we’ll still be watching it with our mini-Cinnabons and blankies in front of the fire place while the turkey is roasting and the rain splatters against the window panes.  It’s gearing up to be a blissfully stormy day here in Oregon tomorrow as well…maybe even some lightening!  Could be fun.  Someday I’ll have to invest in either solar panels or a gas generator so I won’t have to worry about the power going out on me while I have a 17 pounder cooking away and $150 worth of food stashed in the fridge that could potentially go to waste if the electricity takes a dive.

Anyway…hope you have a very relaxing and wonderful Thanksgiving.  And just remember…it’s not the size of the wishbone that counts, it’s how you break it. *wink*

Happy Thanksgiving!
