I find this kind of peacefulness in only a very small handful of places: the ocean shore, the highlands, and occasionally in front of my fireplace when the rain is falling outside and the wind is blowing hard enough to make the tops of the trees bend just a little.
Such moments rarely last longer than a few minutes…but sometimes I can find one that lasts for a couple of beautiful hours before it suddenly dissipates back into the noise and chaos of daily schedules and “must do’s”.
I live for these moments. It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen one. *sigh*
‘Babies’ Trailer. Release: Apr 16, 2010. Simultaneously follows four babies around the world — from birth to first steps, the first year of their lives.
The children are, respectively, in order of on-screen introduction:
Ponijao, who lives with her family near Opuwo, Namibia
Bayarjargal, who resides with his family in Mongolia, near Bayanchandmani
Mari, who lives with her family in Tokyo, Japan
Hattie, who resides with her family in the United States, in San Francisco.
I am the daughter of Earth and Water,
And the nursling of the Sky;
I pass through the pores of the ocean and shores;
I change, but I cannot die,
For after the rain when with never a stain
The pavilion of Heaven is bare,
And the winds and sunbeams with their convex gleams
Build up the blue dome of air,
I silently laugh at my own cenotaph,
And out of the caverns of rain,
Like a child from the womb, like a ghost from the tomb,
I arise and unbuild it again.
Words can’t fully express what you mean to me Mom, not just today – but every day. Every single day, I love you with my whole heart.
“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” ~ Cardinal Mermillod
“Most of all the other beautiful things in life come by twos and threes by dozens and hundreds. Plenty of roses, stars, sunsets, rainbows, brothers, and sisters, aunts and cousins, but only one mother in the whole world.” ~ Kate Douglas Wiggin
“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us when adversity takes the place of prosperity when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”
~Washington Irving
